The Origins of LuxVocabulary
Initially, I created LuxVocabulary to support autonomous learners in learning Luxembourgish. I grew up in a quadrilingual environment and became fluent in English, French, German, and Luxembourgish. The basis of LuxVocabulary is, therefore, a quadrilingual dictionary. Very soon, it was apparent that language learners worldwide could profit from this website.
LuxVocabulary: Your Luxembourgish teacher
Luxembourg is the country with the world's highest gross domestic product per capita (GDP) and a beautiful multicultural country at the heart of Europe with UNESCO-protected sites and events. For that reason, many people would like to work and live in Luxembourg. The official languages are Luxembourgish, French, and German. There are many ways to learn Luxembourgish, including apps, websites, and courses. The strong point of LuxVocabulary is that it can support you in learning vocabulary at your own pace. You can use LuxVocabulary as a personal teacher to learn Luxembourgish. LuxVocabulary's original idea is to help you get started with learning Luxembourgish and to train Luxembourgish spelling. It remembers your vocabulary progress and ensures you repeat the words until you know them. The first lessons are free of charge to give you a feeling of the premium learning experience. It does not matter if you are a Luxembourger or aim to get Luxembourgish citizenship. You might be interested in rare languages or just learn for fun. You are all welcome. User guideFurther learning resources
As the dictionary of LuxVocabulary is based on the open-source content of the Luxembourgish online dictionary, the most critical link is the LOD homepage. Beyond the LOD, the Luxembourgish government also launched the llo webpage for learning Luxembourgish.
The ZLS is the government's center for the development of the luxembourgish language and it provides additional relevant links. Since 2024, the development of LuxVocabulary has taken numerous additional resources into account.
